Product Description

A near-infrared (NIR) spectrometer is used for a wide range of applications, including analyzing food, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and chemical products. It's a non-destructive analytical technique that measures the absorption of near-infrared light by a sample, providing information about its composition and properties. Specific applications include:

  • Agriculture: Determining crop parameters like sugar and water content, ripeness, and nitrogen fertilizer needs.
  • Food industry: Analyzing food products, including quality control and monitoring manufacturing processes.
  • Pharmaceuticals: Quality control, analysis of raw materials, formulation development, and monitoring manufacturing processes.
  • Petrochemical industry: Determining octane number of refined gasoline and other petroleum-based fuels.
  • Materials science: Analyzing and characterizing various materials.
  • Medical applications: Cerebral and peripheral near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) for monitoring blood oxygenation.
  • Remote monitoring: Using NIR for remote sensing applications.
  • Particle measurement: Analyzing particle sizes and distributions.
The BK-S450 from Biobase is an advanced NIR spectrophotometer with a wavelength range from 900 nm - 2500 nm. The instrument is non-invasive such that samples are not damaged by the measurement process. The instrument incorporates the highest quality tungsten lamps, filters, gold-plated gratings, and refrigeration indium gallium arsenide detectors to ensure superb accuracy and reproducibility.

Each instrument uses a variety of traceable standards for wavelength calibration. The calibration points are evenly distributed over the entire wavelength range, ensuring consistent wavelength accuracy across multiple instruments. The instrument is equipped with an integral sphere diffuse reflection sampling system. This system collects diffuse reflection light at multiple angles which is more conducive to improving the measurement reproducibility of uneven samples.

The BK-S450 monitors ambient temperature and humidity in real-time and stores it in the spectrum file which is useful for end-users to check and optimise measurement conditions.
